Claims and Objections

The Customs Department of Sint Maarten aims to manage the import, export, and transit of goods in a professional, transparent, and customer-focused manner for both businesses and private individuals.

If you disagree with a Customs decision — including duties assessed, seizure of goods, or penalties imposed — you have the legal right to file a claim or objection.

You may submit an objection if:

  • You believe duties or taxes were calculated incorrectly
  • Your goods were seized and you wish to request release
  • You disagree with a Customs enforcement action
  • You received a fine or administrative decision from Customs

All objections must be submitted in writing and include:

  • Your full name and contact information
  • A clear description of your objection
  • Supporting documents (invoice, airway bill, receipt, declaration, etc.)
  • The date of the Customs decision

Customs will review your request and respond in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
